Resources - Long Island
I’m an Island Girl! I love this 122-mile long and sometimes 23
mile-wide island, rich with cultural diversity, bountiful farmlands, ripe
vineyards and the most beautiful beaches in the world. With 7.6 million
people calling Long Island home, we’re more than just Manhattan’s bedroom
or playground. Teeming with talented artists of all types through four
counties, the island is full of entertainment venues, museums and great
restaurants.
At 1,400 square miles, Long Island is the largest island in
the Continental US and 149th largest worldwide. Our history dates back to Montaukett and Shinnecock Indian tribes and Dutch settlers of the 1600s.
One of my favorite places, Jones Beach built by Robert Moses, has 10
pristine miles of oceanfront (and half a mile of bayside) beaches and was
named after Major Thomas Jones, a Massapequa landowner during the 1700’s.
