Resources - Music

The fertile ground of Long Island spawned many talented musicians from Forest Hills’ Simon and Garfunkel to Brooklyn’s Barbra Streisand. The list goes on with Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, the advent of EMO music with Taking Back Sunday and new alternative rockers Envy-On-The-Coast. As Harry Chapin founder of the Long Island Philharmonic had envisioned, music thrives on Long Island with many local jazz, folk or classical ensembles as well as garage bands performing nightly. Here are some open mic nights, venues and websites compiled from friends.
